Event Details
Some of the greatest frustrations of leaders these days are knowing what to do, but having neither the time nor resources to do those things. Even when we want to take a long-term perspective and develop others to be leaders, we get caught in the whirlpool of tasks and crises that keep us from those development activities. Fortunately, there's a simple way out of these frustrations: creating time to think together.
During the day with Meg Wheatley , participants will:
-
Explore the characteristics, strengths and challenges of leading learning centred organizations.
-
Discuss the value of critical thinking and reflection for effective leadership.
-
Learn about a basic model of how change happens.
-
Explore a process for working together within an organization.
-
Be introduced to the Emerging Leadership Development Framework and Assessment Tool.
Meg will describe very simple processes and means for restoring learning to our organizations. In a combination of teaching and small group work, participants will have the opportunity to 1/think together; 2/reflect on what they've learned from their personal experiences as leaders; 3/determine specific actions in their organization to reinstitute learning, starting immediately.
In every organization, large and small, restoring critical thinking--learning from experience--is the simplest and most effective way to develop leadership capacity. As staff take time to reflect together about day-to-day issues, occasional crises, successful accomplishments and unintended consequences, people develop the skills necessary for leadership. People's intelligence grows both individually and collectively, and teamwork strengthens, all from reinvigorating our best human capacities. And of course we become more effective in accomplishing our plans and goals!
And we'll all bask in the pleasure of being thoughtful leaders once again!
